On our way back from Egypt we stopped in Sinai Saturday night and hiked Mt. Sinai (or what they believe to be) on Sunday morning. We got a 2am wake up call and started hiking around 3am. They told us that it was cold, but I don't think any of us were expecting it to be so cold. At our little hotel at the base it was already freezing when we got there! It was a pretty tough hike, somewhere a little over 4 miles. Toward the end when its like all stone steps going steeper up it got harder too. At one point Nycole and I got off the path and were like rock climbing with my little flashlight, but we soon reconnected. As we went up we got offered camel rides a lot. We started so early to catch the sunrise at the top and I'm kind of glad we hiked in the dark so I had no idea where the end was or how much further we had to go when I started getting tired :)
This picture was on the very top of Mt. Sinai. It was so cold and windy that we were all cuddling close together to keep body heat in!
Here is the start of the sunrise!
This is me after the sun pretty much came up. It was really beautiful!
Nycole and I thought the snickers were tempting that we saw along the way up at these little shops the locals had made along the way, but we decided we couldn't get one until the way down. On the way down they didn't look as appealing since I felt kind of sick, but when we got to the bottom we decided we had to get one even though they were $2, what a rip off, but it was SO good! Definitely worth it! Notice my Mount Sinai hat purchase that saved my forehead on the hike!
I HIKED MT. SINAI! The scriptures now have a whole new meaning. I can totally relate to Moses now....well, kind of :)
I'll have to share with you something Charleton Heston wrote about his experiences playing Moses in the Ten Commandments. His experience on Mt. Sinai was pretty intense, as was yours, it would seem. I have it recorded, so we'll listen to it when you get back.
